Abstract
The invention relates to a method for the manufacture of knitted fabric having a perforated effect which comprises the use of at least a fine yarn and a coarser yarn worked with the needles so as to form a base knitted fabric with the finer yarn with all the needles in operation, while the coarser yarn is selectively worked by only one or more consecutive needles to produce a pattern projecting in front of the knitted base.

METHOD FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF HOSE WITH AN APERTURED EFFECT ON CIRCULAR KNITTING MACHINES Field of the Invention This invention relates in general to the sector of the manufacture of knitwear on circular knitting machines, and relates in particular to a new method for the manufacture of patterned hose having an apertured effect, even though it is not specifically apertured, on such machines.
Scope and Summary of the Invention It has for example already been suggested that patterned hose can be manufactured through the use of at least two yarns which differ in weight and/or nature which are fed to the needles of a circular machine and worked so as to be selectively and alternately on the inside and outside of the hose in such a way as to create a pattern and an effect of the lace type in the fabric and/or manufactured article obtained.
The scope of this invention is to provide a method for the manufacture of a hose fabric with an apertured effect, but which is not pierced, obtained by means of a new original use of yarns which differ at least in weight not so much through the alternating inside-and-outside arrangement of one of the yarns with respect to the other as in the state of the art mentioned above, but through the manufacture of a continuous fine base hose with one yarn and patterns made with another yarn projecting in front of the knitted base.
This object is accomplished according to this invention by a method of manufacturing knitted fabric on the needles of a circular knitting machine, a method which generally comprises the use of at least a first fine yarn and a second coarser yarn fed to the needles and worked in such a way as to form a knitted base with the finer yarn using all the needles while the coarser yarn is selectively picked up or not picked up by one or more consecutive needles to produce a pattern in relief having the desired effect.

Detailed Description of the Invention The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings which is a plan view of a knitted fabric according to the invention.
The method of working a knitted fabric as proposed here is implemented through the use of needles working at least one finer yarn A and one coarser yarn B (and/or a yarn of a different nature), continually working the finer yarn A and selectively working the coarser yarn B together with the finer yarn.
In more detail, fine yarn A is knitted with all the needles in operation so as to create a continuous fine base knitted fabric, the stitches of which are represented by the normal letter"o" (o) in the diagram below.
The working needles are however selected so as to pick up or not pick up, and therefore to work or not to work, coarser yarn B with finer yarn A. In other words the needles are selected in such a way that one or more consecutive needles also pick up the coarser yarn in accordance with a predetermined programme so as to form the projecting stitches indicated by the bold letter "0" in the said diagram.
In practice, the finer base knit (o) between the projecting"o"stitches creates a pierced effect in the fabric obtained, emphasizing the pattern defined by these projecting stitches, with the result that a special knitted fabric is obtained without any openings or discontinuities but with a highly attractive effect by controlling only the working of one yarn, in the case in point the coarser or more visible yarn.
Claims (4)
- CLAIMS 1. A method for the manufacture of knitted fabric having an apertured effect on the needles of a circular knitting machine which comprises using at least a first fine yarn and a second coarser yarn fed to the needles and worked in such a way as to form a base knit with all the needles in operation using the finer yarn while the coarser yarn is selectively picked up or not picked up by one or more consecutive needles to create a pattern which projects in front of or on top of the knitted base.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, in which the finer yarn is worked individually to form a continuous knitted base and together with the coarser yarn only on the needles selected to produce the projecting pattern.
- 3. A knitted fabric obtained using the method according to claims 1 and 2, comprising a continuous knitted base manufactured using fine yarns and a pattern projecting in front of the knitted base manufactured by working a second yarn together with the yarn used for the knitted base.
- 4. A knitted fabric substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
