Abstract

1294958 AC generators with DC excitation A VAN KAICK AVK-GENERATOREN-U MOTOREN-WERKE oHG 23 Feb 1970 8648/70 Heading H2A A brushless welding generator comprises a 3 Ph. generator having a 3 Ph. stator winding 1 connected in series with a 3 Ph. rectifier 9 to produce a rectified welding output, and a rotor 2 on a shaft which also carries an exciting generator 3 Ph. rotor 4 electrically connected to the first generator rotor 2 via a 3 Ph. rectifier 3, and the exciting generator stator has a winding electrically divided into two parts 5, 6 of which the latter is connected to any excitation current circuit via an adjustable resistor 7 and the former is a compounding winding connected to the secondary winding b of a current transformer 8 whose primary winding a is located in a current path of the first generator. In the embodiment shown, the current circuit is a battery 20 or the D.C. supply of an I.C. engine driving the generator, and a 1 Ph. or 3 Ph. auxiliary winding 21 provides at terminals U, V a supply to drive auxiliary devices when welding is not in progress, output control then being effected by a further transformer primary winding c. In Fig. 2, a transistor (11) and Zener diode (12) provide a constant high igniting voltage independent of the arc voltage.
