Abstract
1293905 Making drills LION OIL TOOL HOLDINGS (INTERNATIONAL) Ltd 3 Nov 1969 [6 Nov 1968] 52689/68 Heading B3A [Also in Division E1] A wear blade for an oil drilling tool is made by forming on a cylindrical former 2 a blade base 1 made of steel so that the base extends along the former and is skewed in an anti-clockwise direction substantially 90 degrees or less around the circumference of the former, applying, e.g. by brazing, a hard wear material 3 to the outer face of the base, and removing the base from the former. The blades 9 are then electrically welded to an oil tool 6-8 having the same dimensions as the former using a welding technique which requires preheating to less that 300 C. The hard wear material is composed of hard metal carbides boiled in a matrix of brass, the carbides representing 60-90% of the total.
