Abstract

1293159 Electric timepieces SUWA SEIKOSHA K K 10 Dec 1969 60389/69 Heading G3T A vibrator for an electric timepiece comprises an inertia body formed by two masses fixed to the ends of an arm. A spring is connected to the arm, and the body oscillates symmetrically in a plane, its centre of gravity moving rectilinearly normal to the axis of symmetry. In the embodiment shown in Fig.8, two oscillating bodies comprising arms 3, 31 and masses 4, 5; 4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP> are mounted on a U-spring 2, 2<SP>1</SP> at connections, 7, 7<SP>1</SP>. The masses 4, 4<SP>1</SP> are magnetic cups interacting respectively with a detection coil 9 and a driving coil 9<SP>1</SP>. In operation, a spring 13 and pawl 11 intermittently rotate a ratchet wheel 10 connected through a pinion 17 and wheel 18 to a seconds hand 19. The frequency of the oscillator may be 60 c/s and the centre of gravity of each inertia body should be a distance of about one-third of the length of the spring 2, 2<SP>1</SP> from the connection 7, 7<SP>1</SP> between the spring and the arm 3, 3<SP>1</SP> so that the centre of gravity will move in a straight line normal to the axis of symmetry. Such a vibrator eliminates position error in a gravitational field. The oscillator is driven by a battery 20 through a transistor circuit 21, Fig. 9 (not shown). In another embodiment, Figs. 10, 11 (not shown), a Piezo-electric drive system is used.
