Abstract

1293071 Reciprocating pumps; compressed air motors INOUYE SHOKAI K K (INOUYE & CO Ltd) 24 June 1970 [26 Feb 1970(4)] 30617/70 Headings F1A and F1M A pump, e.g. for supplying slurry to a spray gun comprises two tubular diaphragms 15 and 16, actuated through liquid columns by an air motordriven piston 27, the downward displacement of which is double its upward displacement, so that, on the upward stroke of piston 27, diaphragm 15 is filled via inlet valve 20, and on the downward stroke, half of the slurry is discharged through outlet 34 via check valve 21 and diaphragm 16 and the other half is transferred to diaphragm 16, from which it is discharged during the following upward stroke of piston 27. For filling the liquid columns, piston 27 is stopped in its mid position by operating a lever 51 to engage a stop 52, carried by the air motor valve 62, in a groove 48 in the motor piston rod 47, the assembly then being laid on its side and plugs 57 and 58 removed for the filling operation. A reservoir 102 with a viewing window 105 indicates liquid column leakage through seals 104. The air motor valve 62 is reversed at the end of each stroke by spring-loaded washers 90, 91 on piston rod 47 engaging internal flanges at either end of the valve 62, the valve being held in its end positions during each stroke by the air supply pressure acting on differential areas of the valve lands, Fig.3 (not shown). In Fig.6 (not shown), plate-type diaphragms, one twice the capacity of the other are used in place of tubular diaphragms 15, 16. In Fig.7 (not shown), tubular diaphragms, one twice the capacity of the other, are actuated by a rotary pump comprising a rotary eccentric in a circular chamber divided into two pumping chambers, one twice the capacity of the other, by spring-loaded vanes engaging the eccentric. Check valves 20 and 21 are releasably located in the pump casing by nut 28 and cap 35, respectively.
