Abstract

1292948 Modifying polymer structure FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970] 21565/71 Heading C3P Polymers containing -CH = CH- groups at least 30% of which are in cis-configuration are treated to convert cisto transby contact with a catalyst comprising: (a) a tungsten salt, e.g. WCl 6 or WF 6 ; (b) a Group I-IV metal compound, preferably an organometallic compound, e.g. diethyl aluminium chloride, ethyl aluminium sesquichloride or triethyl aluminium; and optionally (c) an epoxide or halogenated alcohol, e.g. epichlorohydrin or chloroethanol. The treatment is preferably effected in solution, e.g. in benzene or toluene. Examples relate to the treatment of high cis-1,4-polybutadienes and an equal cis/trans-polypentenamer.
