Abstract

1292663 Wing headed fastener and a tool for the fastening thereof ACME LANE CO 21 Nov 1969 [21 Nov 1968 12 Feb 1969] 57155/69 Addition to 1223051 Heading E2A A wing headed fastener 10 comprises a body portion having a top end 28a and a bottom end 28b, at least one wing portion 30, 30a projecting laterally outwardly from the body portion, and being of resilient material so that the wing portion can flex upwardly relative to the body portion, an outer portion of the under surface of the wing portion extending downwards further than does the portion of the under surface adjacent the body portion, the body portion being formed with an aperture 10a for receiving a nail 20 therein to pivotally attach the wing-headed fastener to a member, the top and additionally the bottom portions of the aperture being countersunk 10b, 38b (countersink in bottom portion not shown in Fig. 6) respectively for receiving a head of the nail and for preventing burrs which may be caused by the nail being driven through the aperture from extending beyond the bottom end of the body portion. The wing-headed fasteners may be formed into an integral strip by gate portions 36a perpendicular to the wing portion and used in combination with a fastening tool which is the subject of Specification 1292664 and which is used to position one of the fasteners on a workpiece, fire a nail through the aperture 10a into the workpiece, sever the fastener from the strip of fasteners and bring the next fastener in the strip and nail into position for the next application. The fasteners may thus be used to fastening a panel to a base portion wherein the panel has a series of elongated apertures 26 through which the body portion of the fastener extends, the wings 30 30a being out of alignment with the slot 26 to hold the panel on to the. base.
