Abstract

ISCHE MASCHINEN UND AUSRUSTUNGEN VEB 4 Dec 1970 57621/70 Heading B8R A working web 11 is supplied to a rotary printing press (not shown) from a supply roll 2 mounted on a reel stand 1 which also carries standby rolls 3, 4, the former being shown in the replacement position. Pulse generators 17, 18 or 19, associated with cones clamping respective rolls on to the stand, produce pulses representative of the rotational speed of the working roll, i.e. roll 2 as shown, whilst pulse generator 20 and pulse generator 21 produce pulses representative respectively of the linear speed of the web 11 and of the peripheral speed of the replacement roll, i.e. roll 3 as shown, as it is accelerated up to the linear speed of the working web, by a motor 15 (or 16, 14) prior to a splicing operation. The pulse generators are connected to AND and OR gates associated with a control circuit including counters 22, 23, 24 and relays 45, 65, 56, 67. The arrangement is such that the indexing motor 8 of the stand 1, the accelerating motor 15 (or 14, 16) of the replacement roll and the splicing device 12 are automatically actuated in the correct sequence to effect the splicing operation when the exhausting roll 2 reaches a predetermined diameter, this operation being controlled by the signals from the pulse generators 17 (or 18, 19), 20 and 21.
