Abstract
1292351 Dry shavers BRAUN AG 14 Jan 1970 [14 Jan 1969] 1811/70 Heading B4B In a motor driven dry shaver, the severed portions of hair are electrostatically attracted to an electrode 31, a potential difference being created between the electrode 3 and an outer cutter 1. The source of potential is a generator in the form of a disc driven by the motor to produce electrostatic charges. Hairs protruding through the outer cutter 1 are polarized to form dipoles and when severed by an inner cutter 21, consisting of dielectrical material with or without metal cutting edges, the parts cut off are of opposite polarity to the collecting electrode and are thus attracted to it. The inner cutter may comprise a grid 210, separate blades 21 or be formed from a ceramic slotted shell 22, Figs. 4, 5. The ceramic may have an outer metal coating before slotting to provide cutting edges. The electrode 31 may be replaceable, and may have an adhesive coating or, for a fixed electrode, a removable adhesive strip to grip the portions of hair. Alternatively, either a replaceable cover or the electrode 31 itself may have honeycomblike depressions filled with adhesive material. To produce a more uniform field between the electrode and the cutter 1, the electrode may be arched towards the cutter 1. A hydroscopic substance may be placed in the area of the electric field to prevent discharge due to moisture.
