Abstract

1292323 Measuring moisture electrically UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 2 April 1970 [25 April 1969] 21381/69 Heading GIN In a gas humidity determining apparatus including an electrolytic cell a heat sink is provided to dissipate heat generated in the cell. A constant flow of gas is passed continually via inlet and outlet 5, 6 over electrodes 1, 2 coated with a hygroscopic material, and a D.C. is applied to electrodes 1, 2, the flow of electrolysis current being a measurement of the water absorbed by the hygroscopic material and hence of the water content of the gas. Electrode 1 is in the form of a platinum foil sleeve, a deposited platinum or platinum strips wound on P.T.F.E. former 3 and acts as the heat sink. Electrode 2 is an even helix of platinum wire coated with a woven glass fibre.
