Abstract

1292217 Stacking containers SWEETHEART PLASTICS Ltd 17 Feb 1970 7590/70 Heading A4A A plastics container 10 is integrally formed with a false bottom 12, and a ledge 20 just above the bottom to support an end ring 17 of a further container in a stacking arrangement. The ledge is stepped out of the side of the container and so has a continuous wall portion directly beneath it, thus avoiding the shearing stresses arising when one container is supported on an inwardly extending peripheral flange, or on the base of another container. All the stress is transmitted through the supporting wall portion. Ventilation may be provided between the bottoms 12 of stacked containers by the provision of indentations across the top of the ledge 20, or in the end ring 17.
