Abstract

1291662 Feeding sheets POLYGRAPH LEIPZIG KOMBINAT FUR POLYGRAPHISCHE MASCHINEN UND AUSRUSTUNGEN VEB 11 May 1971 14358/71 Heading B8R Detecting means 7, Fig. 1, senses the thickness of sheet material (and thus the number of sheets) or the absence of a sheet, at a given point on the feed path and passes a signal to a signal processing unit 10 which passes a signal corresponding to the number of sheets present to an evaluating unit 11, which emits a signal on one of outputs as 12-16, each representing a number of sheets, to a display unit 17,register 18 and feed and machine control unit 19. The detecting means may comprise a roller 22, Fig. 3, carried on a rod 21 longitudinally adjustable according to the condition of normality which applies, and movable cyclically into detecting position. Deflection of the roller acts by means of semi-conductor strips 24 on an electrical bridge circuit to produce varying output voltages. In another form, the roller actuates a baffle 30, Fig. 4, to vary the back pressure of a pneumatic reflex jet 32. In another form, Fig. 5, the detector means comprises a slidable rod 34 which masks a varying number of photocells 35 from a light source 36 to produce the varying voltages.
