Abstract

1291048 Animal ear tags E B RITCHEY 14 April 1970 17822/70 Headings B8F and F35 An animal ear tag comprises a label portion 20', a neck portion 24' and a resilient triangular head portion 26', the head portion being foldable to permit threading through a slit in an animal's ear, the tag being attachable to the animal by means of an insertion member 40 having a tube for receiving the folded head portion of the tag and a flattened spike 41 sharpened to pierce the animal's ear. In operation, the head portion 26' is folded and inserted into the tube of the insertion member 40, the insertion member is pushed through the animal's ear until the tag is pulled partially through the ear so that the head portion 26' and label portion 20' are on opposite sides thereof, and the insertion member is detached from the tag to permit the head portion to unfold and prevent removal of the tag. The tag is injection moulded from polyurethane.
