Abstract
1394618 Identification tags D D FEARING 4 Jan 1973 [10 Jan 1972] 469/73 Heading B8F An animal ear tag of plastics material comprises a flat body portion 10 bearing identifying indicia, a resiliently flexible planar neck portion 13 extending at right angles to the body portion, and a more rigid bowed elongate head portion 14 extending transversely to the plane of the neck portion in a direction generally parallel to the plane of the body portion. The resilient nature of the neck portion permits it to be folded along one leg of the head portion thus enabling the head portion to be passed through a slit in an animal's ear, and then resume its undeformed position so that the head portion extends transverse to the slit. As described, the neck portion is held in its folded deformed position by locating the head and neck portions in the channel-shaped end of a tool having a piercing point 21 and cutting edges 23 for forming the ear slit, Figs. 5-8 (not shown). Having penetrated the ear with the tool to form the slit, the remainder of the tool is pulled through the ear and then removed from the tag thereby releasing the neck and head portions.
