1290961 Stripping cigarettes AMF Inc 3 July 1970 [18 July 1969] 32387/70 Heading A2C [Also in Division B8] Cigarettes in a hopper 1 are fed by an elevating conveyer 2 onto a shoot 4 which aligns them axially end to end in parallel rows as they slide down it onto a conveyer 5 which forwards them between vibrating guides 6 from which they progress under a refuser roll 7, a wetting roller 8, and a roller 11 carrying a plurality of cutting discs that open the paper of the cigarettes along the line wetted by the roller 8. The cigarettes are then broken open and any filter tips removed by the action of a finned roller 13 co-operating with a smooth roller 12. The opened cigarettes pass over a vibrating sieve 14 through which the bulk of the tobacco passes onto a conveyer 15, and the papers and filter tips are forwarded through a series of four beaters 18 in a tumbler 19 where the remaining tobacco fragments are discharged through a net 19 onto the conveyer 15 and the papers and tips are sucked through a duct 20 into a bag 21. The bag 21 is housed in a chamber 22 to which suction is applied by a fan 23 via a centrifugal dust extractor 29. water is fed to the roller 8 from a tank 28 via a solenoid valve 27, a manifold 109 and capillary pipes 9. A photocell 26 is coupled to a circuit which stops the machine when the bag 21 is full and simultaneously closes the solenoid valve 27. The shoot 4 is formed with a plurality of channels having alternate crests of two different heights, the distance between a low crest and the 'two adjacently positioned higher crests being less than the length of a cigarette.
