Abstract

1290762 Cold liquefied gas storage containers CHICAGO BRIDGE and IRON CO 6 April 1970 [29 May 1969] 16158/70 Heading F4P The metal base 15, Fig. 1 of the inner shell of a double-shelled cryogenic liquid storage container is suspended from a plurality of spaced supports 14 resting on the base 10 of the outer shell and has a plurality of first corrugations 30 of smoothly undulating contour with their troughs 16 disposed between the supports and has a plurality of second corrugations 24, Fig. 3 crossing the first corrugations thereby accommodating liquid loading and thermal contraction forces on said base 15 beneath which is conventional heat insulating material 21. As shown the container is generally rectangular and the first corrugations 30 extend up the side walls 18, 20 of the inner shell and are supported by spaced concrete supports 19. An insulated ceiling 29 is covered by a roof plate 25 connected by tie bars 28 and columns 27 to the base 15. Each base support 14 is formed of spaced members between which is insulation 23 and the troughs of the second corrugations 24 span the spaces between the members. In a modification the container is an upright cylinder with the troughs of the first corrugations (46, 47, 50), Fig. 4 (not shown), extending in circles of progressively larger diameter crossed by radially extending second corrugations.
