1290705 Photographic flash apparatus WHITEHOUSE PRODUCTS Inc 29 Oct 1969 [13 June 1969] 53062/69 Heading G2A A socket, preferably formed as a one piece moulding, for a flash-cube 62, comprises a stepped base 18 having a stabilizing stud 28 extending upwardly from the base centre, there being flexible resilient fingers 30 mounted on the upper end of the stud 28. When a flash-cube is inserted, the fingers 30 enter the hollow centre post 60 of the flash-cube, and are squeezed together as the cube is pushed further down. Eventually the bottom 64 of the cube rests on supporting ribs 16, by which time the fingers are clear of the centre post 60 and can spring apart so that projections 70 thereon hold the flash-cube on the socket. Two arcuate ribs 32 having ends 72 in the path of rotation of lugs 21 on the centrepost 60 make sure that the cube is retained in a position suitable for firing a flashlamp. Contacts 46, 48 link a lamp in the firing position with batteries housed in the body of a housing 10 which carries the socket on its top surface. The housing may be connected to a camera by plugs 40, 50. In another embodiment, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), no batteries are enclosed, and the socket is plugged directly into a camera flash circuit. In either case the stabilizing stud may be polygonal, and the retaining fingers may be mounted on the sides of the stud.
