Abstract
1290276 Producing graphite SIGRI ELEKTROGRAPHIT GmbH 19 April 1971 [18 April 1970] 26531/71 Heading C1A [Also in Division H5] An electric furnace for the graphitization of carbon articles 9 comprises a carriage 4, having ceramic walls 5, which carriage is movable into position between two electrodes 1. The carriage has graphite blocks 7, inserted into its ceramic walls, which engage the electrodes and a mixture of coke and sawdust 8 above and below the carbon articles so as to protect them against oxidation. A hood 10 is suspended above the furnace to remove any gases formed during the graphitization process. The carriage has wheels which run on rails 11, a circular track being provided, Fig. 3 (not shown), around which are situated the silos for the insulating mixture, cranes for the loading and unloading of the carbon articles, and the two electrodes for connection to the furnace. In Fig. 2 (not shown), an hydraulic press moves the electrodes into and out of engagement with the graphite blocks on the carriage, to which blocks, layers of graphite fabric or foil may be stuck.
