Abstract

1290275 Inflating tubular film SHOWA DENKO KK 19 April 1971 [3 April 1970] 25596/71 Heading B5B In a process for biaxially orienting a tubular film by inflation, the film, e.g. of polypropylene, is passed through a chamber 2 comprising a preheating zone 4 constructed as a plurality of stepped zones 14, 15 of different diameter and located above a stretching zone 6. The film in transit through zones 14, 15 is heated indirectly, e.g. by I.R. heaters 5 and also by hot gas rising from zone 6. Sizing rings 11, 12 and 8 may control the film path and a further ring 13 may prevent the point of inflation rising too far up the tube. Ring 13 may additionally be heatable, e.g. having gas supply ducts, heated film-contacting rollers or individual I.R. heaters, whereby localized film-heating may be effected to control thickness variations.
