1289985 Injection mould closing devices F D'ASCENZO Jnr 15 Oct 1969 50598/69 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions E1-E2] A coupling assembly comprises a housing 10 having an axial bore 12, driven means 34 disposed in said bore for axial movement between actuated and deactuated positions, driving means 24 connectible to actuating means 14 and axially movable in said bore, means 40 operatively interconnecting said driven and driving means for moving said driven means in response to movement of said driving means and including fastening means 44, 46 movable relatively and transversely to the direction of movement of said driven means and said driving means and abutting said driven means and operably connected to said driving means for movement thereby to and from fastening condition in engagement with said support means and said driving means respectively to prevent said driven means for moving towards said deactuated position except by movement of said driving means. As shown the housing is attached to the actuating means 14 which consists of a fluid actuated cylinder and piston motor, the piston having a rod 18 which extends into the bore 12 from one end. The driving member 24 is slidably disposed in the bore 12 and is connected to the end portion of the piston rod 18 by a fastening member 26 which allows a little free play so that the travel of the driving member 24 in the bore is slightly less than the full stroke of the piston rod 18. The member 24 has a collar 28 which has a pair of slots 30 and 32 which register with openings 20 and 22 in the housing when the rod 18 is fully extended from the cylinder of the motor. The outer end portion of the driven member 34 is slotted at 35 for coupling to an actuatable member (not shown) such as the die of an injection moulding apparatus. The member 34 has a nose portion 36 slidably disposed in the collar 28 of the driving member 24, the nose portion 36 having a longitudinally extending transverse slot 38. The means 40 interconnecting the driven and driving members is a pin carried by the collar 28 which extends through the slot 40 so that the two members 24 and 34 can move relatively to each other in an axial direction a distance defined by the length of the slot 38. The nose portion 36 also has a second longitudinally extending transverse slot 42 disposed at right angles to the slot 38 and which contains the fastening means 44 and 46 which are a pair of plates. The plates slide in the slot between extended positions where they project out of the slot 42 and retracted positions where they are substantially disposed within the nose portion 36, the length of the slot 42 is such that the plates cannot move axially relative to the member 34. The two plates each have a slot 48 and 50 which have portions inclined to the axis of motion of the member 34 and the pin 40 extends through the slots 48 and 50 so that when the member 24 moves away from the member 34 the pin causes the plates to retract into the nose portion 36 and when the member 24 moves towards the member 34 the pin 40 causes the plates to extend out of the nose portion 36 into the slot 20 and 22 of the housing so fastening the member 34 to the housing.
