Abstract
1289845 Shearing MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO 29 Sept 1969 [30 Sept 1968] 8260/72 Divided out of 1289844 Heading B3W The description is substantially identical with that of Specification 1,289,844 but the claim relates to a cable cutter for cutting underwater, comprising a frame 6, an anvil 20 attached to the frame, and forming therewith a cablereceiving recess 26, a chisel 8 movable across the recess to cut a cable 27 located in the recess against the anvil by explosive means 12, firing means 14, a passage 39 communicating at one end with the firing means and open at the other end to the ambient water, a vent 11 communicating with the passage, a firing rod 16 being restrained to lie adjacent the open end of the passage when the cutter is cocked for firing, closure means 9 on the rod for closing the vent after initial actuating movement of the rod and means for releasing the rod so that it forces water in the passage against the firing means.
