Abstract

1,118,635. Shearing. F. SONNBERGER. 6 Aug., 1965 [8 Aug., 1964], No. 33787/65. Heading B3W. [Also in Division B4] A cutting tool comprises a hydraulic pump unit attached to a handle 1 which is operable by the pivotal movement of a second handle 2 attached thereto, a holding assembly 16, 17 forming an aperture 18 for enclosing a workpiece such as a wire or rope, which is attached to the cylinder portion 7 of the pump and a knife member 19 slidable in the holding assembly and is actuated by piston portion 7 of the pump unit. In operation a rope or wire is positioned in the aperture 18, the handle 2 is actuated to operate the pump whereby the knife 19 is slidably moved within the holding assembly to sever the rope or wire. The knife 19 is biased to a return position by a spring, Fig. 3 (not shown). The cutting edge 20 of the knife 19 may be angled. In a further embodiment a replaceable second knife 21 is attached to the holding assembly within the aperture portion 18. Additional cutters such as notching chisels may be used with the tool, the additional cutters being attachable to the knives of the tool by, for example, magnetic means.
