128,979. Aeronautical Instrument Co., and Brewer, G. Sept. 8, 1917. Aerostats.-A pressure-relief device for balloons comprises a sleeve 1 in communication with the balloon and normally held in the position shown by elastic cords 3, any increase of pressure above a predetermined amount causing the sleeve to expand and tear off a ripping patch 5 to a greater or lesser extent by pulling a cord 7. The sleeve has a fabric flange or disk 2 for attachment to the balloon, and its outer end is closed by being bound around a reel 4. The cords 3 are preferably of the type which elongate only after a predetermined tension has been reached. Communication with the balloon is effected through a sleeve 8, which may be tied to prevent further escape of gas after the removal of the patch 5.
