Cylinders, cooling. - In order to prevent fracture of a cylinder at the flange in consequence of unequal expansion, the flanges of both cylinder barrel and jacket have parts 3, 4, and 5, Fig. 1, cut away, as shown in Fig. 3, and holes 7, 9 are drilled through the cylinder flange, the cover 6, or both, for the admission of water to the cavity b. The joint at e-f is inclined.
