Abstract

1288551 I C engine valve gear R DRISCOLL 16 Sept 1969 [17 June 1968] 28837/68 Heading F1B Pairs of relatively rotatable concentric tubes 10, 21 and 11, 22 control flow through cylinder inlet and exhaust ports 18 and 19. The inner tubes have sprockets (26, 27) Fig.6 (not shown), driven from the crank-shaft (8) by a chain (28) and tube openings 23, Fig.2, register with openings 20 in the outer tubes. Oil under pressure is introduced into axial and circumferential grooves 30, 31 in the outer surfaces of the inner tubes through ports 35 in the outer tubes and cylinder head passages (34), Fig. 3 (not shown). Sealing rings (33), Fig. 3 (not shown), in grooves 32 in the inner tubes prevent oil flow into the openings 20, 23. Cooling water is pumped through channels 36 between the head 12 and the outer tubes from hoses 37 to flow in grooves 40 in the outer tubes. The connection of the inner tube 21 to the intake duct may be at the end opposite the drive sprocket or centrally of the tube. (For Figures see next page)
