Abstract
1288250 Valves ANDCO Inc 8 Dec 1969 59748/69 Heading F2V A slide valve, which is adapted for use in pressurized high temperature gas conduits, comprises a hollow, disc-like valve member 10 having defined therewithin a pair of adjacent, convoluted passages 16, the passages being in open communication with each other at their inner ends, (Fig. 1, not shown), and having connected thereto a pair of pipes 18 which permit the supply and withdrawal of coolant to and from the member interior, and a hollow, cooled housing 13 having radially extending annular flanges connectible to similar flanges 23 on adjacent piping. On each side of the valve member channel 30, this housing is formed with communicating inner and outer coolant chambers 34 and 59 respectively such that coolant supplied through a pipe 50 to the inner chamber 34 passes throughout the entire annular extent of chamber 34 and then, adjacent pipe 50 whereat the wall which separates the two passages bends downwardly into a baffle 51, flows from passage 30 into passage 59. Upon entering passage 59, the coolant splits into two semicircular paths and finally leaves the housing via passages 39, 40 at the topmost portion of the housing. The housing is formed from seat and flange constituting members 45 and 22 respectively and coolant chamber-completing wall members 33, 28 and 26, the joints between all such members being in the form of welds as at 32, 47, 49 and 27. Enhanced strength and stability at high temperatures is ensured by forming flange 22 with an axial portion 48 which abuts an axial portion 64 of seat member 45, with the weld between the two members being directed towards the adjacent, inner coolant chamber 34. In the fully closed position of the valve member 10, the member can be urged against the seat portion 12 of one seat member 45 by mutual engagement of a wedge 62 on the valve member and a projection 61 extending from the housing.
