1288126 Changing signs W NOWICKI 27 Jan 1970 [30 Jan 1969] 4002/70 Heading G5C At least two groups of interchangeable plates 1, 2, 3, 4, or triangular cross-section have hinges 7 enabling them to revolve about axles 9 to selectively form one of a number of display areas when viewing surfaces of pairs of plates in each group lie in a common plane. The plates are resiliently urged away from each other by bumpers 14 engaging sprung angle levers 12, the two plates 1 and 4 forming the display area being prevented from hinging in upon one another by two stops 26, 27. The plates are supported at their lower ends an rollers 10 bearing on a plate 11 of frame 8. A disc 20, Fig. 13, also rotatable about axle 9, bears a plunger 23 which can reciprocate against the action of a spring 21. In order to change the display area, the disc 20 is rotated in an anticlockwise direction from the position shown until the action of a fixed spindle 15, attached to plate 1, on the oblique end of plunger 23 causes the plunger to lie behind the spindle 15, Fig. 14 (not shown). The direction of disc 20 is now reversed and the plunger 23 pushes spindle 15 to overcome the force of stop 26 and carry the plate 1 to the position previously occupied by plate 4, where it is held by stop 27. The sprung levers 12 cause the plates 2, 3, 4 to move round in a clockwise direction, plate 2 now being held by stop 26 in the position previously occupied by plate 1, the display area now being constituted by plates 1 and 2. The movement of disc 20 is achieved by gear 18 rigid with disc, engaging a reciprocating rack 29. A crank mechanism rotating about axle 43 causes the rack 29 to reciprocate, and is driven by a chain 46 from a motor (49), Fig. 20 (not shown).
