Abstract

1287609 Toothed gearing SMIT NIJMEGEN ELECTROTECHNISCHE FABRIEKEN NV 1 Oct 1969 [2 Oct 1968] 48320/69 Heading F2Q [Also in Division H1] A driving mechanism for the stepwise rotation of the moving contacts of a rotary switch-such as a transformer tap changing switch-is provided with a plurality of "maltese cross" elements so that successive stepwise movements of the moving contacts may have different angular magnitudes, the driving means including co-operating toothed wheels of elliptical form. The moving contacts of a rotary switch are carried by a shaft 19 to which are fixedly secured certain sectors of two "maltese crosses" 18, 21. Movement of these sectors to rotate the shaft 19 is effected by pins 17a, 20a respectively, which pins are carried by members 17, 20 rotatable by means of pairs of toothed wheels 6, 7 and 12, 13 respectively from a driving shaft 1. The co-operating wheels 6, 7 are elliptical in form and each rotate about one of their foci whilst the wheels 12, 13 are of normal circular form. The mean transmission ratios of the two sets of toothed wheels are equal and the design of the apparatus is such that the angular movement of the shaft 19 produced by the sector 21 is greater than that produced by each movement of the sector 18 but the angular velocity of the shaft produced by either sector is equal. If desired the toothed wheels 12, 13 may also be of elliptical form and each of the "maltese crosses" 18, 21 may consist of two or more sectors which alternate with one another.
