Abstract

1287311 Carding machines J D HOLLINGSWORTH 22 Jan 1970 [24 Jan 1969 24 Oct 1969] 3273/70 Heading DIN A carding machine comprises a carding plate 36 provided with metallic clothing wire and having 175 to 1200 teeth per sq. inch, each tooth being raked forward to provide an angle with a normal to the plate of -10‹ to +30‹ and having a height of 0.01-0.75 inch. The teeth may be metallic or fillet clothing teeth. Preferably a portion of the plate is less than 0.01 inch from the cylinder 30 and is closer thereto at the discharge end of the plate. The plate may be used in conjunction with revolving flats and worker rollers. The plate can be made by winding metallic wire teeth onto a cylinder and securing a plate to the back surface of the metallic wire. The back surface and the teeth can be ground. As shown, a fibre layer 22 is fed over fluted roll 23, over feed plate 24, under fluted feed roll 25, onto licker in 28 having a plate 33 to prevent undue air currents and onto the cylinder 30. The carded web is then doffed and coiled. The doffer 25 also has an air current plate 47. (For Figure see next page)
