1287104 Gas burner HOWARD WALL Ltd 23 March 1970 [3 April 1969 27 Feb 1970] 17591/69 and 9580/70 Headings F4F and F4T To provide a stable flame adjustment in a smoker's lighter burning liquefied gaseous fuel, the fuel is supplied from an expansion chamber 32 to the burner head 16 through a regulating device comprising a disc 27 of elastic material, such as P.T.F.E., pressed between two rigid plates 25 and 30 by a flame adjusting member 14 which is adjustably screwed into a burner casing 11, the disc 27 having a countersunk through hole 28 which is offset relative to holes 26 and 31 in the plates 25 and 30 respectively, so that part only of the disc hole is open to the plate holes. The disc may include more than one countersunk hole 28, each hole 28 may be countersunk at both ends, and at each countersink the degree of offset relative to the adjacent plate hole may be equal to the sum of the radii of the relevant disc and plate holes. As shown, the rigid plate 30 is formed by the base of the burner housing 11 and its hole 31 opens directly into the expansion chamber 32 which comprises a cylinder of metal or plastics mesh surrounded by wadding 40. The flame adjusting member 14 has a conical hole 24 in its base aligned with the hole 26 in the plate 25, and houses a spring loaded cut-off valve 21 which is held depressed, when the lighter is not in use, to seal the hole 24. In a further embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), two P.T.F.E. discs are held pressed between the plates 25 and 30.
