Abstract

1287082 Containers for fluent material ASHTON CONTAINERS Ltd 6 July 1971 [10 July 1970] 33554/70 Heading B8P A disposable container for fluent material comprises an inner plastics bag of tubular material and an outer tubular body comprising side panels 10, 11 and bottom flaps 15, the flaps 15 extending across the body but terminating short of each other to form a central discharge opening which is closed by a pad 25 of rupturable material. The pad 25 is of cruciform shape, one pair of opposing arms 26 overlapping one pair of the flaps 15 and the other pair of opposing arms 27 underlying the other pair of flaps 15, and has a central hole (28) through which extends the closed bottom portion of the bag and from which extend diagonal lines of weakness. The outer body is reinforced by two liner assemblies each of which lines two adjacent side wall panels and comprises a carrier sheet (22) and two stiffening panels 23. Stacking posts 32 enclosed in protective sleeves 31 are located in each corner of the outer body. The bottom flaps 15 of the container are glued to an apertured pallet and, after filling, the top of the container is closed by a lid. The container is opened by rupturing the pad 25 along the lines of weakness, and removing it, and then cutting open the bottom of the bag. The outer tubular body of the container may be of corrugated fibreboard and the pad 25 of solid fibreboard, or the outer body and pad may both be of a stiff plastics material. In a modification, the pad 25 is not apertured.
