Abstract
1286611 Flame inspecting device FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 7 Jan 1970 [24 Jan 1969] 829/70 Heading G2J A flame inspecting device comprises a transparent ceramic rod 3 for arrangement adjacent a flame, and enclosed at one end by a tube 5 of higher heat resistance the internal walls thereof being spaced from the rod 3 such that radiation emitted from a flame is transmitted to an observer at the other end of the rod. The ceramic materials may be glass, quartz glass or crystalline glass whilst the tube may be of white crystallised glass or the refractories, alumina, zirconia or sillimanite. In use a burner flame is arranged behind a partition 2, through which the device projects and for viewing hotter blue flames, a metal wire 4 of high thermal capacity, with one portion formed into a spiral is placed in the flame, the wire being attached to thicker wire 6, of higher heat resistance, and sheathed in ceramic material 7, adjacent the flame and in turn supported between the tube 5 and the rod 3. The wire 4 may be supported directly on the end of rod 3 and may be coated with ceramic material to increase its incondescence. Light conducting rods may be attached to any position on the side of rod 3 to aid vision by an observer.
