1286549 Dewrinkling garments WESTERN AUTOMATION CORP 18 Nov 1969 [11 Aug 1969] 56353/69 Heading DIL The de-wringling of a garment comprising a thermoplastic resin is effected by heating the hung garment above the softening temperature of the resin, this temperature being between 325‹F and 400‹F, for a time less than that required for non-reversible changes to occur in the resin, which time is between 5 and 30 seconds for dry garments, whilst agitating the garment in a downward flow of air of a velocity of 1400 feet per minute or more, the garments then being cooled in air of ambient temperature. Pretreatment in the form of steaming of the garment may be employed in which case the moist garment is heated and agitated for ¢ to 1¢ minutes during dewrinkling, the presteaming lasting for 7.5 to 22.5 seconds. In a further embodiment the dewrinkling process is applied to a garment which has been laundered, spun dry and then further dried. Yet another embodiment consists in using the process on a garment which has been treated with thermosetting resin, the process being applied prior to the fixing of a "permanent press" in the garment. Size may be applied during steam treatment.
