Abstract
1285676 Freeze-drying installation SOC D'ETUDES ET D'EXPLOITATION DE PROCEDES POUR L'INDUSTRIE ALIMENTAIRE 20 May 1971 [2 June 1970] 16031/71 Heading F4G In order that product (e.g. food ) particles which have been carried away by the flow of vapour and deposited on the walls of a cylindrical vacuum vessel 1 should be returned by gravity to the product bed 8, the vessel 1 is vibrated; hence the particles in the bed 8 are vibrated to propromote freeze-drying. The vessel 1 is supported on springs 7 and is vibrated by motors with out-of-balance weights in such a way that the particles are transported from inlet to outlet end of the vessel 1. The plate 2 supporting the product bed 8 is mounted by means of an inclined flange 3 low in the vessel 1 so that the area of cross-section for vapovr flow initially increased in order that the speed of the particles should drop. The product particles in the bed 8 are heated by plates 9 and 10 connected by uprights 12 to fixed supports 11. Water vapour is discharged through an opening 14 to a vapour trap or condenser. The inlet and outlet of the vessel are provided with screens.
