Abstract

1285526 Automatic frequency control circuit SIEMENS ALBIS AG 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970] 23681/71 Heading H3A An A.F.C. circuit for a transceiver of a distance measuring system comprises a local oscillator 1 controlled by the output of a frequency discriminator 8, there being provided a hunting circuit for sweeping oscillator 1 consisting of a capacitor 2 and a resistor 3 connected via an amplifier 4 and a resistor 12 to the discriminator 8 and via a further resistor 6 to a blocking potential source - U. At a sub-station a switch 5 connecting source - U via a monostable circuit 9 to a control amplifier 4 is closed so that the amplifier is blocked and no charge voltage US exists across 2 so that oscillator 1 operates at its normal frequency f N (Fig. 2, not shown). At the main station the switch 5 is opened, indicating a change in logical state from "1" to "0" and the monostable circuit 9 produces a positive pulse causing amplifier 4 to saturate and capacitor 2 to commence charging so that the oscillator frequency shifts from f N to f E on the other side of hunted frequency f H , which differs from f N by the intermediate frequency to which circuits 11, 8 are tuned, the discriminator output being ineffective during the frequency shift as the amplifier 4 is already saturated. At the end of the pulse period, amplifier 4 is blocked and capacitor 2 starts discharging so that a sweep of the oscillator 1 commences from f E till f H when it falls within the capture range of the discriminator 8 when the discriminator output is allowed to pass via amplifier 4 for effecting automatic control of 1.
