Abstract
1285114 Double glazing units PPG INDUSTRIES Inc 31 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 37070/70 Heading C1M [Also in Divisions E1 and H5] A multiple glazed unit comprises a pair of rigid sheets 12, 14 e.g. of glass, electro-conductive heater means, e.g. a transparent copper, film or tin oxide film 16 provided with bus-bars 18, 20, connected to an electrical source by wires 36, 38, to heat the interfacial surface of the sheet 12, and an electrically insulating spacer-dehydrator 22 consisting e.g. of a vapour transmitting mixture of electrically insulating thermoplastics and elastomeric and carbon black and molecular sieve desiccant material such as synthetically produced crystalline metal alumino-silicates or crystalline zeolites or anhydrous calcium sulphates, activated alumina or silica gel, the spacer 22 being disposed between opposed marginal edge portions of the sheets 12, 14 and preferably covering the bus-bar 18, 20 and compressively supporting them in electrical contact with the layer 16. The spacer 22 may comprise a block copolymer of styrene-butadiene rubber. In lieu of or in addition to the primary hermetic seal between spacer 22 and the sheets 12, 14 there may be provided a moisture-resistant strip 24 having a layer of moisture resistant, non- electrically-conducting mastic composition 26 adhered thereto and completely round the peripheral edge of element 22 and peripheral edges 28 of sheets 12, 14. A rigid frame 30 (metal) extends completely around the unit.
