Abstract

1284675 Treating garments INTECH CORP 13 May 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 23105/70 Heading D1L Knitted garments are processed in apparatus comprising at least one chamber, a conveyor supporting the chamber(s) for movement along a fixed path, sequentially past at least three stations viz. a garment receiving station, a processing station and a delivery station, there also being provided fluid dispensing means, garment removal means and conveyor moving means. As shown a turret assembly 2 comprises a disk-shaped body 3 rotatably mounted on sleeve 24 by means of hub 5 and carries a plurality of chambers 34. Sleeve 24 is sealed at both ends to form a chamber 23 which is supplied with low pressure air via conduit 30. Formed in the walls of chamber 23 are openings 33 equal in number to the number of stations I to XXIV. Each chamber 34 communicates via check valve 44 and conduit 43 to an opening in hub 5, the openings in hub 5 and the openings 33 being orientated so that they align when a chamber 34 is at a processing station. Opening 32 arranged to communicate with an opening in hub 5 when the corresponding chamber 34 passes between stations II and III is supplied with relatively high pressure air. In addition to conduit 43 each chamber is connected via a conduit 40 to a pressure relief valve 41. At station 1 an untreated stocking is deposited in a chamber 34 via pneumatic conveying tube 60, at station II steam is passed into a chamber by means of a steam head 63, in passing between stations II and III the stocking in a chamber is agitated by means of a blast of air. At station III steam is again passed into the chamber by means of a steam head 73; at station IV a preheated dye solution is added via tube 81; between station V and XXI a chamber is heated by passing through a tunnel 84 supplied with steam via tube 85; at the same time, between stations IV and XXI the contents of a chamber are agitated by allowing low pressure air to bubble through it; at station XXII a chamber is exhausted by dye solution by means of a compressed air head 77 which forces the solution through pressure relief valve 41 into receptacle 92; at station XXIII the stocking is removed by pneumatic conveyer tube 79 and at station XXIV a chamber is purged by means of steam head 75. In modifications of the apparatus the stockings may be scowed by means of a station similar to station IV supplying a scowing solution and a station similar to station XXII.
