Abstract
1284609 Train control system DASHAVEYOR CO 5 Aug 1969 [9 Aug 1968] 39219/69 Heading B7N Driverless rail vehicles travelling full in one, e.g., left direction and empty in the other, e.g., right direction on a single track are controlled by signals in block defining track loops 42, 44, each associated with one direction of traffic movement. The vehicles are energized from a 3-phase supply via power rail conductors 37-39 and the signalling control arrangement 48, 50 in each block is energized from one phase of the supply via a circuit including signal rail conductor 40 which is insulated at its ends and extends over the length of the block. On entry of a vehicle into a block, e.g., the block defined by loops 42B, 44B, the power supply to the signal control arrangement of the block is cut off by a short-circuit connection on the vehicle engaging a rail conductor of the signal control arrangement supply phase and the rail conductor 40. Each control arrangement includes two relays K1, K2 (not shown) controlling respectively the supply of signalling current from source 82 to the loop 42 of the block to the left and to the loop 44 of its own block; and each vehicle includes detecting means for holding off braking when signalling current is picked up from the loop associated with its direction of movement. The cut-off of the power supply to the control arrangement de-energizes relay R1 and also via contacts of the relay, the R2 relays of the two blocks to the right of that occupied. Thus if the occupation of the block B is caused by an empty train vehicle moving to the right then the loop 42A of the block A to its rear is de-energized thus braking to a halt any following train entering that block and if the train is loaded and moving to the left then the two loops 44C and 44D (not shown) in the blocks C + D to its rear are de-energized, thus braking a loaded vehicle (which takes further to come to a halt) entering block D. The frequency of the signalling current may be varied to slow the vehicles at bends in the track, approach to points &c.
