Abstract

1284574 Cleaning vehicle head-lamp lenses L H FENNELL 25 Sept 1969 47230/69 Heading A4F A head-lamp cleaning system comprises a wiper blade supported at its ends by an annular support and arranged for cleaning a lens or lens shield, and means for imparting relative rotation between the wiper blade and the lens or lens shield. In one embodiment the wiper blade 40 is supported by an annular member 50 rotatable by an electric motor 60 via a rack and pinion device 58, 60 to clean a head-lamp lens 56. During the wiping operation cleaning liquid may be supplied to the lens 56 via a tube 39<SP>1</SP> and openings 38<SP>1</SP>. In another embodiment the wiper blade 70 Fig. 4 (not shown) is held at its ends by a stationary head-lamp rim and cleans a light transmitting lens shield superimposed on the head-lamp lens and rotatable by a rack and pinion device. The wiper blades 40 on the lens shields of two adjacent headlamps may be rotated simultaneously by a common driving pinion or one may drive the other via an idler pinion. The wiper blade may be formed with half its blade as a squeegee and half as a brush 94 Fig. 5, (not shown). Also the wiper blade may comprise two radial arms subtending an angle at the axis of its annular support. In other embodiments the wiper blades are carried by annular gear rings and may be of transparent material.
