Abstract

1284343 Piezo-electric crystals NIPPON ELECTRIC CO Ltd 3 Sept 1970 [3 Sept 1969 13 Dec 1969] 42304/70 Heading HIE A piezo-electric vibration comprises an LiTaO 3 single crystal plate having an orientation (zxtwl)#/#/# in which the z axis is parallel to one of the three axes of symmetry of the crystal # in which 68‹<#<113‹; 22‹<#<57‹; and 0‹<#<50À4‹ or 130À5‹<#<180‹. The temperature coefficient for crystal orientations within these ranges can be <Œ20 p.p.m./‹ C. and the electromagnetic coupling coefficient can exceed 10%. The temperature coefficient is within Œ20 p.p.m./‹ C. where # and # lie within the polygonal area ABCDEFG, and within the area HIJKLMNO the temperature coefficient is within Œ 10 p.p.m./‹ C. Within the hatched area the temperature coefficient is less than Œ 1 p.p.m./‹ C. The electromechanical coupling factor becomes larger as # approaches zero and in a preferred range 0‹<#<1À5‹. Tables are given of electromechanical coupling coefficient, temperature coefficient # specific inductive capacity for different orientation crystal plates.
