Abstract
1284099 Aerials MARCONI GO Ltd 18 Dec 1969 61777/69 Heading H4A A wide band mobile aerial arrangement comprises a hollow mast 1 which is mounted on a a base 2 carried on the roof of a vehicle 3. The base 2 incorporates a spring-loaded joint which permits deflection of the mast 1. Two bi-conical dipoles 4A, 4B (one for transmission and one for reception) are mounted on the mast, co-linearly and spaced apart; and are fed by cables passing inside said mast. The conical portions of each dipole are simulated by linear elements extending along conical surfaces, and flexibility is provided for said elements, for example, by constructing them of spring steel or the like. Thus, when an obstacle 6 is encountered, the resulting loading is applied gradually to the mast 1. In other embodiments, two disc-conical dipoles are provided, mounted disc-to-disc (Fig. 4, not shown), or a single bi-conical dipole (Fig. 1, not shown), or a single disc-conical dipole (Fig. 2, not shown).
