Abstract
1284063 Coated sheet material ILFORD Ltd 19 April 1971 [5 Feb 1970] 5542/70 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] A process for the production of a film-base material comprises treating one side of a film of synthetic linear polyester of highly hydrophobic character with an organic solvent solution of a phenolic adhesion promoting agent, removing the solvent and coating on to the treated side an organic solvent solution of an organic dicarboxylic acid half-ester of a phenoxy resin which has the general formula: wherein each of R 1 -R 7 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl or cyclohexyl group, R 8 is a hydrogen atom or the acyl residue of a halfester of an organic dicarboxylic acid, n is at least 50 and from 10 to 95% of the R 8 group of the said acyl residue. The adhesion promoting agent may be a phenol or a naphthol and may be substituted by chloro-, fluoro- or nitrogroups. Suitable materials are listed. A further layer of a hydrophilic material may be applied such as a gelatine based layer, a polyvinyl alcohol layer or a polyvinyl acetal layer. The gelatine layer may be a gelatino silver halide emulsion. The polyvinyl alcohol or polyvinyl acetal layers may comprise a light-sensitive diazonium salt to produce a diazotype material. Alternatively, after the polyvinyl alcohol or polyvinyl acetal layer has been coated the surface may be hydrolysed and impregnated or coated with a light-sensitive diazonium salt to produce a diazotype material. The base material may be a mixed isophthalic-terphthalic polyester.
