Abstract
1283881 Controlling reactors BROWN BOVERI KRUPP REAKTORBAU GmbH 4 May 1971 13072/71 Heading G6C A control rod for a pebble bed reactor comprises a tubular jacket 1 within which is disposed an absorber rod 3, the jacket 1 being inserted into the pebble bed to a position predetermined for the power range to be controlled, and the absorber rod 3 being movable axially within the jacket 1 by adjusting means in accordance with a predetermined control operation. The drive device for the jacket 1 consists of an electric motor 4 with a shaft 5, a cylinder 6 secured to a casing 7 of the motor and having an internal screwthread 8, a sleeve 9 with an external screwthread 10, and slide elements 11, and a shaft 12, formed with axially extending grooves 13 for the slide elements 11. The shaft 12 is made fast to the shaft 5, and the jacket 1 is secured to the sleeve 9. The jacket 1 is made of graphite and its outer wall 15 is provided with a screwthread 16. The interengaging screwthreads 8, 10 effect a displacement of the sleeve 9 in the upward or downward direction in dependence on the direction of rotation of the shaft 5. The elements 11 slide in the grooves 13 during this movement. The rotary movement and the screwthread 16 facilitate the penetration of the jacket 1 into the pebble bed. The absorber rod 3 is operated by a winding device composed of an electric motor 17 and a rope drum 18 with a rope 19. The rope 19 is passed through bores in the shafts 5, 12. A rope guide device 21 serves for the uniform winding of the rope 19 on and off the drum 18 and a device 22 monitors the tension of the rope. The casing 23 of the winding device is mounted on the casing 7 of the electric motor 4.
