Abstract
1375504 Inserting electrical coils into cores GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 15 March 1972 [19 March 1971] 12052/72 Heading B3A An apparatus for inserting the side turn portions of electrical coils 32 into axial slots 33 of a magnetic core 34 comprises turn inserting means including coil inserter blades 35, which are movable a preselected distance relative to the core 34 by a drive means 65, 70, and means, accessible through the turn inserting means remote from the drive means 65, 70, for selectively setting the preselected distance. The insertion operation is initiated by raising a plate 63 along rods 60, 61 by a piston 65 of a cylinder 70 causing pushers 75 to move insulators 78 from apertures 77 of a rotatable magazine 76 to a position just below the coils 32. When the plate 63 engages a control member 53 in screw threaded engagement with a rod 38 connected at one end to the feeder blades 35, the rod 38 is raised together with a coaxial rod 29 which is connected to the rod 38 through a slip clutch 50 and which is connected to divider blades 21. The upward movement of the divider blades 21 is halted when a control plate 49 in screw threaded engagement with the rod 29 engages a stationary plate 46, the slip clutch 50 allowing the feeder blades 35 to continue upward movement with the insulator pushers 75 until stop members 71 engage the control plate 49 whereupon the insertion of the coils 32 and insulators 78 into the core slots 33 is complete. In this position teeth 56 of the control member 53 are intermeshed with teeth 58 of a member 57 fixed to the control plate 49. The strokes of the blades 21, 35 and insulator pushers 75 are adjustable to accommodate cores 34 of different heights by manually rotating the rod 38 which causes, through pin connection 43, simultaneous rotation of the rod 29 to effect axial movement of the control plate 49 and control member 53. When the core height is small, the control plate 49 may be positioned against the stationary plate 46 to prevent movement of the divider blades 21. The core 34 is held against axial movement by cylinder operated latches 78. The divider blades 21 and feeder blades 35 may be rotated by a gear 18.
