Abstract
1283581 Fusible cut-outs EDWARD WILCOX & CO Ltd 13 April 1970 [13 June 1969] 30130/69 Addition to 1165402 Heading H2G A method of producing an alloy modified fuse as defined in the parent Specification wherein the alloying metal 18 is bonded to a conductor element 16 by a combination of pressure, deformation and heating the metals to a temperature less than the melting point of the alloying metal whereby the alloying metal and the conductor element are welded together. The conductor element may be notched or pierced, either before or after the application of the alloying metal, to form a zone in the conductor element of steep temperature gradient. Said pressure, deformation and heat may be applied to the conductor element and alloying metal by heated blocks 10 and 12, movable towards and away from each other, means 14 being provided for limiting the travel of the blocks towards each other. The conductor element and alloying metal may be made of silver and tin respectively, and the blocks would in this case be heated to a temperature of 200‹ C. When tin wire is used as the alloying metal the deformed thickness of the tin wire is not more than 1/5 of the original diameter of the wire.
