Abstract

1283519 separating conjugated dienes SNAM PROGETTI SpA 17 July 1970 [18 July 1969] 34914/70 Heading C5E Conjugated dienes are separated from hydrocarbon mixtures by extraction or extractive distillation with a morpholine derivative having an oxygen-containing substituent, e.g. N-formyl morpholine. A hydrocarbon mixture containing at least one acyclic conjugated diene may be subjected to a first extraction or extractive distillation so as to remove the less polar components (e.g. saturated hydrocarbons and monoolefins) and then to a second extraction or extractive distillation so as to remove the more polar components e.g. cyclic conjugated dienes, acetylenes or carbonyl compounds. Two or more acyclic dienes recovered from the second stage may be separated from each other by subsequent rectification. The morpholine derivative may be used in aqueous mixture e.g. up to 20 wt. per cent water. Examples describe the separation of butadiene, isoprene piperylene and cyclopentadiene from various mixtures.
