Abstract

1283166 Position encoders CARL ZEISS JENA VEB 8 April 1971 9060/71 Heading G4H An encoder for providing a digital representation of the position of a shaft 1 comprises three code discs 2, 4, 14 each illuminated by a single light source 16. The code disc 2 is mounted on the shaft 1 which rotates the code disc 4 via gears, 3, 5-12. The code disc 14 is mounted on a shaft 15 and is driven by the shaft 1 via the gears 5-7. Each code disc transmits light to a respective photo-electric transducer 21-23, the transducer 23 being mounted in a hollow shaft 13 on which the code disc 4 is supported. A lens-prism combination 19, 20 and lenses 17, 18 focus the light from the source 16 on the respective code discs.
