Abstract

1282437 Skin care compositions K E REHTIJARVI and J E VILKKI 24 Oct 1969 [25 Oct 1968] 52305/69 Heading A5B Skin care compositions, comprising as a base emulsion an oil-water and/or water-oil emulsion, and one or more non-ionic emulsifiers, and as a skin film-forming phase (a) at least one ionic, layer-forming, colloidal complex silicate compound and (b) a gelling organic substance, (a) and (b) together comprising one per cent by weight of the total composition and the pH of the composition being from 4.0 to 6.0, may be prepared by suspending (a) and (b) in an oil-water and/or wateroil emulsion. Ingredient (a) may be bentonite, bolus or veegum; (b) may be pectin, tragacanth, agar, methyl cellulose or its derivatives, sodium alginate or gelatine; and the oil may be a vegetable oil such as sesame and/or soy oil. The base emulsion containing the skin film-forming substance is preferably a glycerol suspension. The compositions may also contain cholesterol and/or a medicament such as zinc oxide, talcum, titanium oxide and/or cortisone derivatives e.g. hydrocortisone and fluorocortisone.
