Abstract
1282373 Electroplating nickel, chromium AIC APPROVVIGIONAMENTI INDUSTRIALI CHIMICI SPA 6 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 47438/70 Heading C7B A decorative, corrosion resistant Ni-Cr plating is formed on a metallic base, e.g. of Fe or alloy of Al, Zn, Cu or Mg, by electro-depositing first a glossy additive Ni-containing layer on the base from a Ni plating bath containing a soluble complex metal cyanide or thiocyanide e.g. in a concentration of 0À1-10 g/l, then a microporous Cr layer e.g. from a bath containing CrO 3 and H 2 SO 4 . The base may be initially electroplated with Cu and/or Ni prior to immersing in the Ni plating bath without intermediate rinsing. An intermediate shiny or smooth Ni layer may be electro-plated prior to the Cr plating. The Ni plating bath preferably contains NiSO 4 , NiCl 2 , H 3 BO 3 , with butadiol, Na naphthalenetrisulphonate and alkylpyridinesulphonate or metabenzenedisulphonate, or o-benzoyl sulphimide, and a salt (e.g. K) of the complex metal (thio) cyanide, particularly nitroso or carbonyl pentacyano Fe (m) or (II) or Ru (m), hexacyano Co (II), Fe or Mn (II) or (m), cyano Cu (I) or (II), tetrathiocyano Pt (II), or (III) or Pd (II), hexacyano Ir (III), Ru (II) or Rh (m), hexathiocyano Pt (IV), or tetracyano Ni (II).
