Rotation of the wheel by a clutch and spring assembly (58, 60, not shown) in a clockwise direction, Fig. 5, is prevented when a stud encounters the face of disc 64. However, when the stud becomes aligned with a notch N in the disc 64, the filter wheel can rotate until the stop 62 encounters disc 66 whose notch M is located so that a stud that has just passed through notch N has to wait a short time before passing through notch M. Thus each filter 24 is constrained to remain in the radiation beam a preselected time.
